We didn’t go away for the Xmas break this year to Thredbo as we normally do and that meant a much quieter SOTA period for us. I had suggested to Christine we do something for the new years day change over, but my kids weren’t as excited. We didn’t even see in the previous nights new years. We went for a swim in Anglesea new years eve down the coast and stopped in Geelong for the 9pm kids fireworks on the way home, and were asleep by 11pm.

So New years day the kids were awake at a reasonable time and we all pilled into the car and set off for Mt Macedon. We cut the arrival time a little fine but were set up and going just before the Changeover time and made a handful of contacts pre and post the new day. The sun had released some pretty intense solar flares that created some impressive new years aurora, but this also meant the bands were in a pretty poor shape, contacts were very hard! And to top it all off, I only took one photo.

After the line of operators had dried up, we packed up and went for a walk to the lookout/cross, by this stage the carpark and area was getting busy with tourists, so we headed back down the mountain and home. Thanks to all those we worked.
